FAQ

Common questions, plain answers.

+What is a Tails report?

A permanent, source-verified record tied to a pet's microchip — medical, ownership, behavior, lost/found status, and smart-home sightings. Owners cannot edit the verified portions.

+Who can write to a pet's record?

Only state-licensed vets, shelters, and rescues that we approve. Each license document is reviewed; lapses or upheld complaints revoke access.

+Why is bite history always visible?

Bite history protects future adopters, kids, and other animals. Owners can hide their name or precise location, but bite incidents — including Dunbar level — stay on the record.

+How accurate is the bite scale?

We use the Dunbar Bite Scale (Levels 1–6). Verified providers select the level; corrections and disputes are tracked separately and reviewed.

+How much does it cost?

Free chip-ID lookup. Full report is $9.99 one-time or $4.99/yr per pet. Vets and shelters get partner pricing — see the partner pages.

+Can I list a pet for adoption or foster?

Yes. Owners with a verified record can post a rehoming or foster listing. Applicants submit a structured application; you review and decide.

+What is the bad-actor registry?

Verified vets and shelters can flag concerning owners, breeders, or organizations. Flags are held in an admin queue and only published after staff verification. Disputes are tracked publicly.

+How is my privacy protected?

By default, your name, contact, and precise location are hidden on public-facing surfaces. Visit /privacy to control what shows on scans and shared reports.

+What happens if a chip is scanned?

Free preview shows status (home / lost / found). If the pet is reported lost, the finder sees a prominent prompt to submit a sighting with photo and location.

+Do you sell my data?

No. We do not sell personal data. See the Privacy Policy for the full list of subprocessors and what is shared.
